Nikon has join the crowd like Panasonic, Olympus and Canon to produce afford mid range cameras that have HD video recording capability. Nikon introduced its first PMA camera, the Coolpix P100 with 26x superzoom. It’s a complete change of the P90. The new Coolpix P100 has a 26x optical zoom lens that is equivalent to the zoom of a f2.8-5 26-678mm. It boasted with a 10.3 megapixel CMOS sensor that is up to ISO 3200, which helps to improve in shooting speed and reduce noise in low-light pictures. It can also do a continuous burst at up to 10 frames per second at 10-MP size (3648 x2736).
What’s new in the Nikon Coolpix P100 is the HDR capability. It can shoot in MOV format (H.264) at 1080p HD, that is 1920 x 1080 resolution at 30 frames per second. Or if you prefer lesser resolution, it can also shoot at 720p HD (1280 x 720) at 30 fps or other lower resolutions of VGA (640 x 480) 30fps and QVGA (320 x 240) 30fps. It also has a stereo microphone on top and an HDMI output on the left side for connecting directly to an HDTV or monitor.
The Nikon Coolpix P100 will be available in March for $400, not bad at all for an all in one camera. Too bad, with these types of cameras, you can’t change out the lens.

The two highlights that amazed me were the Nikon’s focusing indicator system. It is so cool that when you shoot a bouquet of flowers the display shows you each blossom chosen by the matrix focusing system. You click the shutter with the knowledge that it is choosing what you want. Nikon P100 is really wonderful. The second highlight is the range of the optics from good macro, nice wide angle, and amazing telephoto.
