Dell is ready to for an extreme make over. Its title king of PC maker got trumped by Hewlett-Packard, but Acer just last week surpassed Dell as well. Dell is down but not out for the count. It still has an ace under its sleeves, introducing the Dell Adamo XPS. Dell has been teasing us with this laptop for weeks, and the curtain will unveil next week Thursday. This time Dell is playing for keep, and it intends to make a big splash that will send other guys overboard.
The Dell Adamo XPS is innovative with new technology that will make alien ware (no punts intended) looks like vaporized ware. The Dell Adamo XPS is about 0.39 inch, and will cost about $2000. It will be the world ‘s slimmest laptop, and surpass the Mac Air (not so airy this time, aren’t you Steve?). Slim is not the only thing that Dell has under its sleeves, the Dell Adamo XPS has heat sensing guided missle strip that can detect your hand and automatic open the aluminum lid. What’s under hood is yet to be revealed. With such a thin profile, we can safely assume that it uses the new Intel Ultra Low Voltage Processor 1.6 GHz (SU9400). That is the same processor on the Mac Air Book.
Update: The weight of this laptop is about 1.5 pounds, now that is light for a 13.4-inch laptop with WXGA screen. The ULV dual-core processors are clocked between 1.4 -1.9Ghz with integrated X4500MD graphics processor. A reported score of 3.3 on Windows 7, which is about the same average score on most netbooks. The suck thing about this expensive laptop is the battery life. There are two available battery options: one is rated at 20Wh for a measly 2.5 hours and the one is rated at 40Wh for four hours. That’s funny, my cheap Asus netbook can do 7 hours and scores 3.2 on Windows 7. I guess this is the reason why Dell hasn’t launched this notebook yet.
So the only things Dell sell you at this point is a very thin light notebook with touch sensitive case latch (oh, the latch won’t work if the battery is dead, tech support anyone?). I am pretty sure there are a few of those people with money out there who want to buy this notebook. Average Joe like me, no thanks. Another round of netbooks for me please
. I guess Dell is not making any splash on anyone for this round.
