The bad boys at Dagentooboy of XDA-Developers discovered a way to unlock the Samsung Galaxy S codes that aren’t kept in a secure remote server. It discovered that these codes are stored in a .BAK file on the device itself.
With a hex editor, you can modify the code to insert a new SIM of your choice. Both Samsung Vibrant and Captivate from AT&T were hackable to be able to use on the T-Mobile network, but the Vibrant seems to work best because it can use 3G data connection. And while the Captivate can only use the standard EDGE connection on T-Mobile.
This hack is so easy that you don’t need to root the phone, and can re-lock the phone with the same code. This is surely good news for Vibrant owners if they ever choose to switch in the future.
